The service is operated by UrbanDERM.ca, which specializes in improving dermatology support for family physicians, nurse practitioners and other specialists in urban centres in British Columbia including greater Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, and Kamloops. Our model of care supports provider-to-provider advice, through the use of store-and-forward technology powered by WelTel, a local Vancouver-based company that has been a leader in secure health-text messaging for over a decade. Once a referring provider has submitted their details, a recommendations letter will be generated and sent back to the referring provider. Our approach significantly reduces wait-times and unnecessary strain on overcrowded emergency rooms. Naturally, this service will not be suitable for all consults, but will play an important role in the ever-changing healthcare landscape as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
